I know from personal experience that colicky babies are SO difficult to soothe. I often would cry more than my baby would during those episodes! I remember feeling SO frustrated and it was so difficult to go through as a single mom. Man those were some very tough times I would NOT want to relive. Here are some tips that may help you with a colicky baby.
1. Obviously you know not to ever shake a baby. If you don’t already know it, don’t do it. You could kill him or her! Take a time out from your baby by placing him or her in a safe crib or playpen for five minutes. Compose yourself and walk away. Go drink a glass of water or do some breathing exercises. But get some time away from the baby to regain your sanity!
2. OK now that you’re back with the baby, try the obvious stuff such as rocking and bouncing. I’m sure you’ve already checked their diaper and tried to feed them, but if not do these just in case. They also just might be too cold or hot so regulate their temperature.
3. Try an infant massage. Lightly rub the stomach to see if you can help the baby’s intenstines feel a little more free and can release gas. Often, this is exactly what colicly babies need.
Hope it helps
