The Cost of Learning

In his article in the Filipinas Herald, writer and father Aurelio Peña shared his experiences when his son studied in a private Catholic school. He said that at the time his son was about to take the final examination, the school authorities said that they have an outstanding balance of 8,000 pesos. The amount should be paid for immediately or his kid could not take the final exam. He begged that he’d be allowedto pay the balance after the exam but the nuns told him that it was the school policy. The same thing happened to them in another Catholic school.
The writer argued that Catholic schools must live up to their name and show more compassion to those parents who could not beat their deadline. There are parents who just barely have enough for the tuition fee of their kids and they should be given ample time to pay for the balance.
Jesus Christ preached and taught us to love one another as he had loved us. In Mr. Peña’s experience with a Christian school, did he feel that love? Did his innocent kid feel that love?
