Fostering Creative Expression in children

One important task of parents is to foster the child’s creative expression, and the parent spending some quality interactive colouring time with children, with the parents explaining what colour to use and naming the colour best does this. The parents need to use color vocabulary to reinforce colors. The children can be given a picture to copy, or given a coloring book to color. Apart from drawing, painting, sticking, finger painting, and similar activities also serve the purpose.

Another form of creative expression is through the use of clay. The parents should ideally set up an imaginative corner at home, a mall screened off corner with items of everyday use. Associate one color with an object and stick to that color for a week, while the child tries to mould that object using clay.

Games such as color search, color treasure hunt also help in children developing good sense of colors and thereby develop their sense of creativity.
