Touch is known to play a tremendous role in the growth of an infant. Cells of the most important organs of an infant’s body are scientifically proved to respond incredibly well to touch. Even prematurely born babies begin to gain weight when the power of touch is used, especially when the baby is taken care of by a human hand instead of putting him or her in an incubator full of warmth. The importance of touch can be easily understood by the fact that in various eastern cultures, mothers are answerable for failing to massage their newborns at regular basis.
It’s a scientifically proven fact that babies who haven’t received the touch and warmth of a human being grow up into adults with lack of ability to bond with others, have warm relationships or be confident and strong in general. On the other hand, those babies who are cuddled, loved and fondled by their parents during their early childhood end up getting developed into healthy adults with good confidence and self-esteem levels.
Thank you for bringing attention to the importance of touch for babies and children.
Touch plays a major role in a child’s life. Like food and water, it’s a basic human need to survive. I’m a mom, baby/child massage instructor and author of ‘Mommy, Draw Stars on My Tummy’. Nurturing touch for children is my passion and expertise. Let’s hope for all children to grow up in a nurturing touch environment.
