Encouraging Children To Be Positive

Children of all ages can be taught life-affirming qualities of optimism and positive thinking. These qualities will help them to face difficult situations and learn from experience as well as focus on the good in a situation instead of becoming depressed and negative.
In a society that is so competitive and performance-driven, it does become important to nurture hope and positive thinking in children.
Parents can do this in many ways. Encourage children to look at the bigger picture and see what good may come out of a “bad” or “sad” event. Explain important and sensitive issues, such as, illness and death with tact and show how the circle of life must go on. Demonstrate positive thinkiing in your own behavior. Celebrate the joys, the ups, the good as well as deal happily with the lows and not-so-good parts of life. Take on challenges cheerfully and accept hurdles with confidence and courage.
These simple steps will encourage children to be positive individuals who are hopeful and confident of the goodness that life has to offer them.

Dealing with Toddler Tantrums

Toddlers can be quite a handful, especially, when they reach two years and decide that they have a mind of their own. That is when it becomes important to parent them correctly and guide them so that they learn how to control their behavior and not throw tantrums at parties, malls and even, at home.
Setting the right example as a parent is the first step. If you shout and scream all the time, chances are high that your toddler will be doing the same. Instead, stay happy, positive and calm while dealing with colleagues, salespeople and other family members.
Explain politely and firmly to your toddler why a certain kind of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in the family.
Reward good behavior with smiles, praise and words. Material rewards will set the wrong precedent, so don’t rely on them to facilitate good behavior.
Timeouts and quiet time in the room will also act as deterrents as will taking away TV or playing privileges for a short while.
At the end of the day, remember that your toddler is still a baby in more ways than one. Be patient, calm and kind, things will get better.. eventually.

Children Reward No-No’s

It is hard work being a parent. Children are not adults and do not always listen to reason and behave in a way that is fitting in every situation. It is easy to become frustrated with a child in the grocery store, who cries and begs for sugary cereal or soda pop, when they know that you do not allow them in the home.

A lot of parents do not know how to deal with their children in situations like these and will say or do anything that they can to stop their children’s bad behavior. They will say things like, “If you stop crying…” or “If you just behave…”, “then you will get a reward.”

This is reinforcing bad leadership skills to your child and teaching them that if they misbehave, they will be rewarded for stopping that behavior. They may deliberately start misbehaving just so they can get those rewards and treats; which are often things that they weren’t really allowed in the first place, like candy, sugary cereals and soda pops.

Do not allow your child to rule the roost. Don’t reward them for bad behave, punish them. Stop them from using the internet, watching TV, talking on the phone, hanging out with friends.

Reward them when they are doing something good, helping out around the house, well at school, nice to misfits etc., however never let these rewards be banned items!

Traveling for the first time with an infant can be a very challenging task for the parents in US. Car seats, changes of clothes, diapers and many more many more things become an unavoidable part of the journey. Among all these small things there is one more item, which is important to consider and that is an infant passport.
The importance of passport has highly increased these days. Hardly any border can be crossed without a passport, so strict are the laws these days. There is no provision of adding an infant to the U.S. passport. Authorities have made it compulsory for every citizen, even infants to have their own passports. Carrying your child’s passport is equally important as your own otherwise he or she may be regarded with suspicion.
Applying for an infant passport should be considered equally important, just as a birth certificate. One should still apply for infant passport despite of no immediate future plans of international travel.

What touch can do to your baby?

An amazing research reveals that digestive system’s strength is boosted up with touch. Infants who receive the right ‘touch’ respond by secreting large quantities of digestive enzymes which enhance their digestion. This is why infant massage is such a great method to cure babies who are suffering from colic.
Sound sleep is also a positive side effect of touch. Those babies who do not get sound sleep benefit a lot from infant massage. It’s a reality that babies who have had a sound sleep do not end up becoming hyper-active and throw tantrums. Babies have no other way to communicate other than their cries, and one may easily notice how they keep quiet and stop crying the moment they get into the right hands who know how to administrate the right touch. The power of touch is quite apparent when you shake hands with someone. With touch alone, one can easily determine whether it displays warmth and confidence, or weakness, or friendship and love, or hostility. When an infant is touched with warmth and confidence, it immediately senses the care bestowed on it and responds favorably.

When touched, especially during infant massage, the baby feels important due to the attention being given to it. This increases the baby’s confidence and enhances his or her growth resulting in growing into a healthy adult.
Infant massage can also help parents reconnect with their child after a long gap. With the right touch, parents can bond with the baby after being away due to any personal reasons or due to any medical problems.
New parents are very afraid of touching their child due to it being so very soft and fragile. Infant massage can help parents become accustomed to touching their baby and gives them enough confidence to handle it. The baby also gets accustomed to their parents touch at the same time and begins to recognize them. ‘Myelin’, a special substance found as an electrically insulating layer surrounding nerves and serving as a powerful source of inter-nerve communication is enhanced greatly by touch.

The importance of touch in an infant’s life

Touch is known to play a tremendous role in the growth of an infant. Cells of the most important organs of an infant’s body are scientifically proved to respond incredibly well to touch. Even prematurely born babies begin to gain weight when the power of touch is used, especially when the baby is taken care of by a human hand instead of putting him or her in an incubator full of warmth. The importance of touch can be easily understood by the fact that in various eastern cultures, mothers are answerable for failing to massage their newborns at regular basis.
It’s a scientifically proven fact that babies who haven’t received the touch and warmth of a human being grow up into adults with lack of ability to bond with others, have warm relationships or be confident and strong in general. On the other hand, those babies who are cuddled, loved and fondled by their parents during their early childhood end up getting developed into healthy adults with good confidence and self-esteem levels.
