My girls are 10 and 13. For about 3 years now, I have given them the opportunities to earn their money by working for it. We deliver the phone books every summer. The girls have a choice of helping to earn their own money or not to help. They know how much they get paid and they have learned that the harder they work, the more money they can earn. If they do not wish to help, it is OK, they just will not get any money. My youngest has always been the hardest worker so she has saved the most money also. They help with unloading the truck, packing the books, and delivering the books. They always get to take at least a week off to go to Grandma’s. If we have to go deliver and they do not want to help, they still need to be with us but not help. It has taught my girls that hard work pays off. When they do help, we play games at the same time like racing each other. We also enjoy seeing other people’s gardens and homes. We have helped many people along the way like alerting them when they left their keys in the door.
